I have always been a DIY kind of guy, sometimes to my own detriment. I believe there is immense value in learning the skills needed to do things on our own, but there comes a time when we can use the experience of others to speed up our progress. I want to be that person for you.
The initial honeymoon phase of my engineering career lasted about a year before the learning curve slowed and the day to day became repetitive. Without a strong sense of meaning or passion for the work I was doing, I soon realized how stuck I felt. Even while striving to be a top performer, no matter how well I did, I had to put in the same hours, get the same pay increases, and stay on the same predetermined path.
I got married shortly after starting my career. We had a lot of “the stuff” that “successful people” have, like a house, a dog, and one or two vacations a year. Even so, the fact that I was spending so much of my life in an unfulfilling situation to earn money was eating away at me.
